C1880 Antique mosaic or hexagon medallion style quilt with a large star in the center, and a star in each corner, surrounded by frames or hexagon rosettes. Mostly silks with some satins and velvets. 77in x 91in. Hand pieced and sparsely had quilted in a large hanging grid overall design. There is a 6in border (brown silk on 3 sides, and black on 1 side). There is a purple taffeta binding applied by machine to front, hand to back. There is a thin cotton batting, and the backing is a pieced bars or strippy back. It is completely covered with a tulle fabric, probably to protect it from deteriorating (blue plaid bars and some of the black print bars). It is under the binding, so the binding may have been applied more recently. Please see our You Tube Channel for a video preview of this quilt.
