February Antique & Vintage Quilt Auction
Antique c1840s Variable Star quilt measuring 100 x 106 inches. Consists of 36 blocks, set straight 6 x 6 with 18 stars with Prussian blue and 18 chintz squares, two chintz borders and two faux patchwork print borders. It is hand pieced and hand quilted. Reverse is a blue cotton floral stripe. This quilt is in poor condition with major deterioration in the chintz blocks and borders, edge wear, tear at edge, and spots in the star blocks. Quilt is an amazing study of early fabric and a lesson on why you don’t wash an antique quilt. This quilt was part of Laura Fisher’s estate. Laura Fisher was a New York based world renowned quilt expert, dealer and author, and in offering these textiles for sale we hope to honor her legacy of style and scholarship.
