Antique Marseilles Bedspread measuring 82×80 inches. Laura describes this on her website as 1880s and a "rare appearance with palm tree motifs in a soft red woven in. Traditional Marseilles spreads replicate the hand quilted 18th century whitework of France and are all white. Manufactured primarily in England before the turn of the 20th century. This is perhaps the second or third Marseilles with motifs woven in color that I have ever seen. The technique here is the best quality emulating trapunto quilting in whitework with raised motifs everywhere." It is in very good condition with just a few small spots. This textile was part of Laura Fisher’s estate. Laura Fisher was a New York based world renowned quilt expert, dealer and author, and in offering these textiles for sale we hope to honor her legacy of style and scholarship.
