February Antique & Vintage Quilt Auction
Antique dated 1846-1847 Signature Quilt with names inked and embroidered in the center of a Cross and Crown block. I see two blocks with reference to Philadelphia. Some of the names are: Reuben Miller, Eliza Miller, Grandmother Miller, Eliza A Sowers, Joseph K Miller, Caroline Olivia Clemson, Marcia A Clemson, Thy Cousin Mary Ann Fleming, George B Miller, Oliver P Clemson (possible horse thief 1856-1857), Frances B Miller, David Clemson, Christian M Miller, Edwin Engle, Louisa H Engle, and more. In addition to names, there are also sentiments. It measures 95×93 inches. Condition is poor with fabric deterioration, large spots, age discoloration and tears and several names/sentiments are faded, almost completely gone.
