September Antique Quilt & Textile Auction
Antique Whole Cloth Quilt c1840s from an estate in Crosswicks, New Jersey. 96in x 100in. While appearing as a whole cloth, it is hand pieced with 4 widths of the same botanical on brown fabric (24in wide) on one side. And a different fabric on the other…2 quilts in one! It is hand quilted in a very open double grid. Edge is finished in a woven tape. The sparse quilting and woven tape are very typical of NJ quilts from the 2nd quarter of the 19th century.The reverse is another fabulous brown print. Very thin cotton batting.
