September Antique Quilt & Textile Auction
Antique log cabin quilt from the 1890s or earlier. 68in x 78in. 90 blocks about 7.5in x 7.5in, set straight, 9 by 10 with a triple strip border. All fabric appears to be either wool challis or wool delaines, very common from the 1860s to 1900. There may be a couple of cottons and at least one silk. It is hand pieced, and very minimally hand quilted in the ditch around the blocks. I do not feel any batting. Back of the quilt is a Bars Back or Strippy back of c1880s brown cotton prints. Applied binding, on grain is a textured fabric. There is a sleeve applied along a long edge of the quilt, for hanging purposes. Please see our You Tube Channel for a video preview of this quilt.
