Antique, early 19th century, stuffed work or Trapunto quilt measuring 92×97 inches. Medallion style with a feathered wreath and flowers coming from an urn. It is surrounded by grapes and fantasy flowers. The outer border features baskets of flowers and grapes in baskets surrounded by swags with more flowers between them. Twill tape finishes the edges. It is in good condition with minor spots. It has a sleeve for hanging and Velcro along the other sides. From Laura’s website: The border alone is worth the price of admission, repeating generous filled baskets and a double swag with pendant tassels around all four sides of this monumental whitework early quilt. Wonderful center medallion with an urn-like form surrounded by a sinuous feathery vine to emphasize just one of the various focal points in this best of kind, remarkable composition. The field has plenty of stuffed work patterning to recommend close examination as well. It had been on display in an exhibition of American Folk Art in the American Embassy in Canberra Australia as part of the “Art in Embassies” government loan program.
