Rare 1850s French Antique Textile Sample Book. Large cloth covered record book measuring 17.5 inches high by 11.5 inches wide and 3 inches thick. Inside cover reads “Registres Perfectionnes, Gerard A Paris.” Book contains 75 pages, 61 pages are covered on both sides with over 730 cotton fabric swatches, mostly madders with several Prussian blues and greens and early purples, average swatch size is 4 x 9 inches. French record book kept by either a textile mill or textile supply firm to show seasonal production of fashion prints. Swatches are in good condition, there are 14 blank pages and a few empty spaces on pages where sample is missing, paper is foxing, book spine is detached completely on front edge, book covers are in fair condition.
