Both completed quilt and incomplete top appear to have several of the same fabrics and could be from the same family, possibly a mother and daughter. They were acquired together. The quilt measures 77in x 91in. Pinwheel blocks are set on point and arranged in bars with an alternating interesting fabric with curtain swags and fruit. It is hand pieced and hand quilted. Cotton batting with solid off-white cotton backing, and the edge has remnants of a twill tape finish. The quilt top measures 83in x 86in. Four patch blocks are set on point and arranged in bars, of set by a half block, to create a zig zag setting or streak of lightning between the rows. It is also hand pieced. It is not finished. There is no batting or backing. And while the condition is better, there is still some deterioration and fragility with this textile, as well. Attached is a piece of paper with a name and July 1843 and Adeline H (or B) Hannah. A previous owner included some genealogy for Adeline Hannah who might have been from French Creek, Venango, PA. But other research I did years ago showed a possible Brooklyn, NY origin. The fabrics in both textiles are just amazing. Chintz, Turkey Red, Indigo, early pinks and greens, chrome yellow and orange. And interesting to see how use/wear effects the fabric color. The unused top is much more vibrant than the used and washed quilt.
