Dana Auctions Jan 2021 Antique Textile Sale
Antique Red and White Scherenschnitte Coverlet Quilt from c1880s or earlier measuring 69 by 72 inches. Consists of 9 Scherenschnitte, or paper cut, applique blocks of red on white 18.5 by 18 inches, set straight, 3 by 3, with a 9 inch white border. It is hand pieced and hand appliqued. This is not finished as a quilt with batting and backing and quilting, but rather a coverlet or counterpane, with the edges finished with a thin strip of red fabric, on grain.
