September Antique Quilt & Textile Auction
Antique French toile cotton fabric measuring 32 inches by 25 inches. This is a colored toile: off white ground with brown, red, green, and blue. The scene of a young couple picking cherries from a tree. There are Rococo motifs, a mandolin, and a quiver with arrows. It was previously part of a museum collection so there is a small tag sewn on a back corner that reads Les Cirises de Apris – XVIII Centur. While this claims to be 18th century, with research, I see this textile dated online as c1860s. Unless I can find otherwise, I will consider that date and err on the side of the later date.
