Antique folk art hooked rug measuring 38 x 61 inches. With a tiger in the center flanked by two squirrels. Laura Fisher describes the rug as follows: “Unique to my experience handling antique hooked rugs, this is a striking image from the late 19th century when Americans were being introduced to the exotica of the world. The striped jungle cat, possibly a tiger, reclines on a tree limb and is presented full face forward to compel our attention. Myriad neutral colors in the cat and landscape. Brilliant red and Persian blue punctuate the rug across the top. Well done restoration. An exciting discovery.” In fair condition with deterioration in the burlap along the edges, it has a new backing applied for conservation purposes. This item was part of Laura Fisher’s estate. Laura Fisher was a New York based world renowned quilt expert, dealer and author, and in offering these textiles for sale we hope to honor her legacy of style and scholarship.
