Dana Auctions June Quilt & Textile Auction
Vintage c1930s Drunkard’s Path Quilt measuring 87×87 inches. At first, I thought this may have been a cotton sateen, the quilt reflect lights and such a sheen! But it is not a sateen weave. I believe this to be a silk or silk blend. All in Nile Green and off white. A very skilled needle artist created this work. It is hand and machine pieced and hand quilted. Thin cotton batting with off white silk or blend reverse. There is a small tag on the back Harriet Hess. It was purchased at Harriet Hess’ Estate in 2001, it was said to have been made by her mother. It is in fair condition with a lot of spots, stains and water stains, and 2 tiny slits in the border. See our Lot 28 for another similar quilt.
