Antique & Vintage Quilt Auction
Antique c1860s unique red and green quilt measuring 81" x 93", comprised of 12 red and green with yellow applique blocks measuring about 16" x 16", set on point 2 x 6 and staggered. There is a 3" double green print sashing, appliqued setting triangles, and a 7.5" applique border on two sides. Original fabrics consisted of double green prints, matter reds and quercitron yellow. There is another yellow print that I believe is a restoration effort. This is truly a unique design with the four elements having two different shapes, one a leaf, the other a vessel or urn with what appears to be an oak leaf. The quilter used the red and green fabrics indiscriminately, with not every leaf being green and not every vessel being red. Even the vines on one border are red. It is hand pieced, hand appliqued and hand quilted. White cotton revers, thin cotton batting, back is brought to the front to finish the edge. It appears it may have been recently washed. It is in good condition with some fade spots, some dark spots If you have any doubt, please ask questions!
