July Antique & Vintage Quilt & Textile Auction
Vintage 1930 Gold or Yellow work Hand Embroidered Quilt measuring 67×69″. Comprised of 9 blocks, 15.5×15.5″, set straight, 3 by 3, with 1.75″ pale yellow sashing and 7″ white border. It is hand embroidered, machine pieced, and hand quilted. This cotton batting and white cotton reverse. The edge is finished with a yellow applied binding. This quilt is AS IS. The edges are frayed all around and the top border is deteriorated. The embroidery is just so fantastic, though. The designs read Victorian to me, though the quilt is signed with initials VCY and 1930. There is another blocks with a child and dog saying Can’t You Speak? There is also a rooster, a pair of birds, a peacock, owl, another figural block, and floral designs. I think the quilt could be cut down and rebound, or a new border added and rebound to give it new life. This quilt is part of the Living Estate of widely respected Sharon Stark of Sharon’s Antiques Vintage Fabrics and Textiles of Eastern PA. She was an author and long time collector and dealer of antique quilts, fabrics and textiles. Sharon is the authority on Feedsacks, and you may remember her Rickrack website.
