Antique 1868 Odd Fellows Cross Quilt, signed with initials JHM and date 1868 in one corner. It measures 81×94″. Comprised of 47 blocks, 9.5×9.5″, set on point, 6 by 7, with solid white alternating squares and setting triangles. The red fabric is a wonderful Turkey Red print, still intact. It is hand pieced, hand appliqued, and hand quilted. In fact, from what I can tell, each of the alternating squares are quilted with different motifs, this is a Quilting Sampler! There is a thin cotton batting and white cotton reverse. The edge is finished with a narrow applied binding, almost like a piping. It is in good condition with some spots and water mark on a corner. This quilt is part of the Living Estate of widely respected Sharon Stark of Sharon’s Antiques Vintage Fabrics and Textiles of Eastern PA. She was an author and long time collector and dealer of antique quilts, fabrics and textiles. Sharon is the authority on Feedsacks, and you may remember her Rickrack website.
