2 Antique Scrappy 19th Century Quilts, in as is condition. Ocean Waves Quilt, c 1890, measures 84×84″. Consists of 25 7×7″ neon print squares, set straight, 5 by 5, surrounded by Ocean waves lozenges with scrappy fabrics including shirtings, Garibaldi reds, early purples, chrome yellow, variety of browns, indigo, clarets, and much more. The setting triangles and 5.5″ border are the same neon print. Thin cotton batting, and a pieced print reverse; the edge is finished with the back brought to the front and applied by hand. It is hand and machine pieced, and hand quilted. It is in poor condition with overall toning wear down the center fold, spots, and holes. Along with a scrappy quilt, c1845, with an assortment of 4 patches and one patches, measuring 70×79″. Most of the blocks measure about 5×5″. And while the quilter tried to keep the quilt organized, she appears to have been lost her place and several areas. It is hand pieced and hand quilted. There is a cotton batting and a brown print reverse. I believe the red gingham binding may be a replacement, it’s applied by hand. It is in poor condition with a large tear in one border overall toning, spots, other small tears, and fabric deterioration. But a really nice variety of Prussian blue, early purple, early yellows and orange fabrics, and more. This quilt is from the estate of Sharon Stark, noted Pennsylvania textile dealer and award winning author.
