NYC Theater/Opera Mens Vintage Matador Costume and More c1960. This lot includes 1 vintage c1960 sz large matador costume from the Universal Costume Co. NYC. Featuring a black velvet high waisted jacket with red sequined lapels trimmed with cold tone cord and multicolored sequin trim which also runs the length of the sleeves and back seams. There is an attached red satin caplet which wraps around the back. There is a single black glass closure and white floral cotton eyelet lace trim cuffs. There are matching black velvet and black satin pants that have matching gold cord and multicolored sequin trim running the length of the pants, elastic suspenders, and a back facing metal zip closure. As well as a black wool felt and faux fur matador hat from Empire State Hats, the hat is free size and has an elastic chin strap, a red acetate sash, and a white lace jabot. Laying flat the jacket measures: shoulders 20”, chest 19”, sleeve 24.5”, waist 20”, length 18”. The pants measure: waist 19”, inseam 26.5”, length 42”. The set is in good condition with only stretched out elastic suspenders and front closure, and stains on the white lace jabot. The lot also includes 1 vintage c1950 mens black velvet matador jacket from Davis Theatrical Costumes NYC featuring silky golden cord floral soutache embroidery throughout, shoulder tassels, metal spangles with glass seed bead accents peppered throughout. The jacket is lined in black acetate and has received alterations over the years, including a receipt for satin side panels added in the not so distant past. In an inside pocket we found a prop letter only further proving its theatrical past. Laying flat the jacket measures: shoulders 20”, chest 20”, sleeve 24.5”, waist 19”, length 19”. The jacket is in fair condition with oxidation and losses to the silver spangles, fading and wear to the soutache embroidery, a stain on the left sleeve, fading to the acetate lining, repairs and alterations throughout the interior, and wear to the tassels on the shoulders.
