Antique Name Inscribed or Signature Quilt, from Pittstown, NJ, and dated 1847 in the center block. The quilt measures 84×95 inches. Consists of 56 blocks in an Old Italian pattern, set straight, 7 by 8. Each block measures about 8.5×8.5 inches, with a 2.75 inch sashing and border. The quilt has been washed at some point, and many of the signatures may have washed out. Visible ones include the center Mary Young 1847, John A Young 1847, Several other Young names, and vanHorn, and Finley. Quilt has a label from the Heritage Quilt Project of NJ, Number 03-003-01 and can be viewed on the Quilt Index website. The quilt is documented to be made by Mary H Young from Pittstown, NJ. It has a printed cotton backing and very thin cotton batting. It is hand pieced and sparsely hand quilted. Condition is fair, with spots, some deterioration and fading in signatures.
