c1940s vintage wool sampler quilt in a crazy quilt inspired or improvisational setting. Measures 76×78 inches. There are 25 blocks, all unique, except the corners which are basket blocks. The blocks are set straight, 5 by 5, with an improvisational style sashing. The fabrics on the top are all wool . The backing is pieced and includes a rayon fabric repair. Very unique quilt. The workmanship is primitive. It is very thick and heavy. It is not quilted or tied. In good condition, small hole and a large spot on the front, and some splits in the fabrics on the back, please see the photos. This quilt was part of Laura Fisher’s estate. Laura Fisher was a New York based world renowned quilt expert, dealer and author, and in offering these textiles for sale we hope to honor her legacy of style and scholarship.
