September Antique Quilt & Textile Auction
Antique c1830 Chintz Quilt measures 91in by 106in. A very early example of a quilt with a repeating block. 42 blocks 11.5in x 11.5in, set straight, 6 by 7 with 3.25in sashing and border. The block pattern is very unusual and complicated with elements of piecing and applique. I refer to it as a dog tooth framed diamond in a square. The fabrics are bright and simply amazing. And very likely English imports. Notice the arrangement of the red fabrics, creating an X through the center of the quilt. It is hand pieced, hand appliqued, and hand quilted. The backing is a fabulous chintz fabric, with its original glaze. The edge is finished with a blue and beige woven tape edge. Please see our You Tube Channel for a video preview of this quilt.
