Antique circa 1902, hand embroidered, needlework depicting Hebrew Western Wall. The inscription reads, “Here is Jerusalem Learning Place of Solomon Site of the Temple.” These “motto” needlework pictures were printed on heavy paper containing thousands of punched holes (sometimes called Berlin work for the place of origin of the important paper designs. The immigrant buyer of a stamped pattern would embroider it and hang it in the home.) Measures 24.5 x 20 inches. In wood with gold frame and under glass, frame is in fair condition with gold loss, chips, cracks, etc. Textile is in good condition with some discoloration and toning . This item was part of Laura Fisher’s estate. Laura Fisher was a New York based world renowned quilt expert, dealer and author, and in offering these textiles for sale we hope to honor her legacy of style and scholarship.
