Antique c1910 String-Pieced X quilt measuring 63″ x 85″, Comprised of 30 blocks, about 12″ x 12″, set straight 5 x 6 with an additional row of half blocks along the top. The center of each block as well as at each block intersection a red and black gingham square is appliqued in place. There is one border around the four sides of scrappy fabric ranging in width from 2-4″. It is hand pieced, hand appliqued and hand quilted. Thick cotton batting and an off white cotton reverse. The edge is finished with the back brought to the front and applied by hand. In good condition with some small spots and fading, workmanship is primitive. The green fabric along the top is a hand applied whisker guard. This quilt is part of the Living Estate of widely respected Sharon Stark of Sharon’s Antiques Vintage Fabrics and Textiles of Eastern PA. She was an author and long time collector and dealer of antique quilts, fabrics and textiles. Sharon is the authority on Feedsacks, and you may remember her Rickrack website.
