Antique 19th Century Gold Silk Formal Dress is one piece. The blouse portion has a short stand-up collar and elaborate lace with a ribbon bow at the center. Long front placket has 17 wood covered buttons and hand made buttonholes. The bodice is boned with overcast seams and lined in linen. The sleeves have a mock cuff with a ribbon bow. The ribbon is believed to have been originally blue in color. The skirt is asymmetrical with vertical bows down the right side and pleats pulled to the left side in a fall of lace ruffles. Two tiers of horizontal pleats are separated by basted lace ruffles. The upper tier of pleats is separated from the lower and connected to the lower by a center panel of ruching. The bottom section of the skirt flows into a train, edged in a wide box-pleated ruffle over the hem. The skirt is lined with a stuff netting, as is the bottom ruffle. Straps inside the skirt suggest there was a bustle to raise the train. It is displayed on a child mannequin body. Measures laying flat 15" Bust, 12" waist, 18" arms.
