Vintage Rose Wreath Shipshewana Quilt measuring 78×96.5″. This quilt is from the Mary Schafer Collection. She was the quilter and collector from the book Mary Schafer – American Quilt Maker by Gwen Marston. It is comprised of 12 blocks, 17×17″, set straight, 3 by 4, with a 6.5″ solid pink inner border, followed by a 4″ off white border, and 2″ white outer border. It is hand and machine pieced, hand appliqued, and hand quilted. There is a thin polyester batting and an off white cotton reverse. The edge is finished with an applied white fabric binding, by hand. It was finished in 1983. MARY SCHAFER: AMERICAN QUILT MAKER pg 140: “Mary bought the Rose Wreath top in an antique store near her home. … The dealer told her that the quilt had been found in Shipshewana, Indiana.
