Lot 48:
Description
Vintage Akua’ba Fertility Doll – Ghana. Fertility doll from Ghana, 10″ x 10″. Akua’ba are wooden dolls used in fertility rituals and represent an idealized female form. According to tradition, they are named for Akua, a woman who could not conceive; akua’ba means “Akua’s child.” The crown is woven with tan, green, and blue threads, and the doll has carved facial features and a female form. The size of the head makes it difficult for the doll to stand on its own.
