Antique c1900s Square in a Square quilt measuring 70″ x 70″. Comprised of 49 squares 6.5″ x 6.5″, set straight 7 x 7, with 2.5″ orange print sashing and 5.25″ orange print borders. It is hand and machine pieced and hand quilted. Thin cotton batting and a red chambray reverse. The edge is finished with the back brought to the front and applied by hand. Nice variety of shirtings, I believe the pink was once a bright red, possibly Congo red and the sashing is an interesting color way for this print, which is typically seen in green. It is in good condition with several large spots and areas of fading. This quilt is part of the Living Estate of widely respected Sharon Stark of Sharon’s Antiques Vintage Fabrics and Textiles of Eastern PA. She was an author and long time collector and dealer of antique quilts, fabrics and textiles. Sharon is the authority on Feedsacks, and you may remember her Rickrack website.
