MARY SCHAFER: AMERICAN QUILT MAKER pg 11-12: photo of antique Midwest Amish cups and saucers quilt in black and red, ca 1920-30, “the last quilt Mary bought … for three hundred dollars in the 1980s.” This quilt is probably Mary’s version of that one. Pg 113: “She excelled at designing original borders that harmonized with the interior of her quilts. Whether pieced or appliquéd, Mary’s borders always ‘fit’ exactly. She was especially clever in devising symmetrical border resolutions.” Pg 116: “she also liked using historical colors such as blue and white, which were popular in the mid-nineteenth century.” Photo on pg 114. Very good condition with slight soiling on the back left edge. This is a rare opportunity to own a piece of important Quilt History!
